Your first round
- Look for ways to form 6 × 4, 8 × 3, 12 × 2 or a useful sum near 24.
- Divide the cards mentally into groups that could create those values.
- Tap cards and operations to build the expression, including parentheses where the grouping matters.
- Select Check. If the value is wrong, use Undo or Clear and revise the grouping.
Worked example
A fraction can unlock 24
With cards 3, 3, 8 and 8, use 8 ÷ (3 − 8 ÷ 3). The inner division is 8/3, so the denominator becomes 1/3. Dividing 8 by 1/3 gives 24, using each card once.
Build your strategy
- If integer-only approaches keep failing, consider making a small fraction and dividing by it.
- Use parentheses to make your intended order explicit, especially around a subtraction in a denominator.
- After viewing a hint, reconstruct the solution step by step so the calculation becomes understandable.
Common mistakes
- Leaving out one card because the other three already make 24.
- Assuming that the expression is evaluated strictly from left to right.
