Your first round
- Count the edges at each dot and identify any odd-degree dots.
- If there are two, choose one of them as your start. Otherwise choose a convenient starting dot.
- Follow unused edges, taking care not to cut off an unexplored loop.
- Watch the edge counter. If you become stuck before it is complete, Undo to the last meaningful branch.
Worked example
A triangle with a tail
Imagine triangle A–B–C–A with an extra edge A–D. A has three connections and D has one; B and C have two each. Start at D, travel to A, then trace the triangle and finish back at A.
Build your strategy
- Delay using an edge that is the only connection to a remaining section until the current section is complete.
- A previously visited dot may still have unused edges, so inspect the lines rather than avoiding familiar dots.
- When undoing, change the decision at a branch instead of replaying the same sequence.
Common mistakes
- Confusing ‘use each edge once’ with ‘visit each dot once’.
- Entering the final endpoint while another loop remains untraced.
