Codebreaker

Codebreaker is a deduction game about a hidden sequence of symbols. Submit a complete guess, read the Exact and Misplaced counts, and use that evidence to narrow the next guess. Feedback describes the whole guess, not individual slots.

Rules & objective

Use the feedback to guess the secret code within your attempt limit.

  • Exact counts symbols that match both identity and position. Misplaced counts matching symbols in different positions, after exact matches have been accounted for.
  • Each secret occurrence can be matched only once. Repeating a symbol in your guess cannot create extra matches beyond the copies in the secret.
  • Easy secrets have no repeated symbols. Medium and Hard allow repeats and give fewer guesses for longer codes.

Key terms

Exact
A correct symbol in its correct slot.
Misplaced
A correct symbol used in a different slot.
Candidate code
A sequence still compatible with every previous feedback result.

Common questions

Does the first feedback count describe my first slot?

No. The counts summarize the entire row. They do not label which symbols were exact or misplaced.

Can the same symbol appear twice?

The Easy secret has no repeats. Medium and Hard secrets can contain repeated symbols, so your deductions must allow them.
